Only One Item Per Shopper, A One Adventure
Any mistakes are entirely due to the storyteller (Shinytoaster)
For me it started earlier in the week. Kariandra informed me that there was going to be a markdown sale at the factory fashion outlet Razorfen Downs on the weekend. Even some free items, gasp! It's a big sale instance so there was going to be a huge MOB of people. She has been eyeing a particular top to finish her ensemble and wanted to know if I would help in clearing a way to the main sales area. She was worried she might not get it. Last time she was there she came out empty handed and she didn't want to be disappointed again. Big sale, hmmm, can't turn that down. I promise I will try to be there. She already got promises of help from Wikket, Rianna and Ela. The plan was to storm the store on Sunday.
Unfortunately, I had a big problem. Transportation. The Razorfen Down's store is apparently not in a very good neighborhood. Walking around there is too dangerous for most and that included me. It was also too far out in the sticks. What I needed was a nice ride. Something to get there quickly, do the store and get safely back. As a paladin, I can get a nice shiny horse for free if I can prove my dedication and maturity level to senior paladins. Now how to get the proof? Will I do it in time?
So I started Friday to prove that I am worthy of a shiny Paladin horse. My chosen proving grounds was Stranglethorn Vale. I ran around doing various quests and was getting closer but time wasn't on my side. Lucky for me, Kariandra showed up and asked how I was doing. I told her my situation and that I might not be able to get a ride to the big sale. She said she will help me. With Kariandra's help we left proofs of my dedication all over the place. Friday carried on to Saturday. I was running out of time. Rianna, back from a shopping trip, dropped by to help me. She said she knew all the elusive places that can provide definite proof. A little while later Wikket joined in. He was concerned that my technique for the upcoming sale was still a little rough around the edges. He said he would help me fine tune things. So the four of us worked together in preparation for Sunday. My leveling got closer and closer until finally in the middle of nowhere around a bunch of dead stinky raptors, I had the necessary proof. There were much rejoicing. We were all totally tired by then and I hadn't slept yet. It was 4 hours away from the opening sale. I said I was going to sleep and said my goodbyes. I went back to Stormwind and secured my ride. Then I went to sleep or passed out. I don't remember.
Roughly four hours later, I showed up at Stormwind's bank, our meeting place. Everybody was there but where was Ela? She was going to miss the sale. So we stalled, went off by ourselves to finish off our individual projects hoping she would show up later. I tried out my shiny new horse. All too soon we were done and no Ela. We couldn't wait. We will have to revisit the store later when she is available. So we mounted on our horses and off we went, ready to storm Razorfen Down.
Thanks to our working together on the previous day, we were able to clear our way to the main sales place fairly quickly. It was chaotic at times but the MOBs didn't have a chance. We were a little dented from the undead crowd but all was well. Wikket gave me hints on crowd control as we went along. It was a great help and I am much appreciated of Wikket. Finally, we were there. One of us rang for service as Kariandra eagerly awaited the arrival of the main elite salesperson. We sound the gong but others heard the ring and wanted to prevent us from the meeting. Their mistake. Working hard we eventually cleared the area leaving none of them standing. Then we heard the arrival of the elite salesperson.
The store's elite salesperson that showed up was a big scary spider thing. Undaunted Karianda went up to the spider, asked for her top and wanted it for free too. She was bold alright. Sorry the elite said, 'That's another day, not today.' Then we were offered a two handed axe to accessorize and the salesperson said, 'Only one item per group.' The whole group were stunned with disappointment but we took the axe. The group awarded it to me which I am currently using for other sales events. We left in a bad state. All that work and we didn't achieve our goal. Kari was visibly saddened. As we left, she brighten up when someone mentioned we could try again. We vow to return right away.
We stayed a little outside the store and started contemplating on what our next plan of action was going to be but we just couldn't think. Rianna, knowing we needed refreshments and time, said she was thirsty and Kari said she needed something too. Rianna volunteered to go on a shopping trip at a place she knew and get us stuff so that we can survive another try. I'm glad she had the energy because at that moment most of us were too tired to do anything but stand there. Off she went but was soon back. Time and drinks did restored us. Okay, we were ready to go shopping. Into the store we went.
We quickly discovered that the 'One Item Per Group' policy held. The store recognized us from before! We couldn't get the attention of the staff. It was going to be another big disappointment! Finally, Rianna came up with a plan to fool the store into thinking we were another group of shoppers. Into the store we went again. No good. Our weary group was close to giving up. Then Wikket had an idea. He said that Rianna idea was sound but he was going to put his own twist to it. We followed the combined ideas and the store was fooled.
Once again we arrived at the sales area. Once again we rang for the elite salesperson. Once again we had to clear eager people wanting us to miss our meet. The myopic elite showed up and Kari asked for her top. She still had the nerve to want it for free. I have to agreed that paying for it now after all our hard work would be unjust. Just to show that were serious we show the elite our instruments of persuasion including my new two handed axe. The elite said, 'Today is the day for the sale on your requested top. Only one item per group.' and handed over the top to Kariandra. We were stunned then we rejoiced. The sale was over and we got it. Kariandra later on showed me the top. Very nice, indeed. When you get the chance you should ask her to model it for you.

Super Stockade Report
Rianna (L23 Priest) wrote up a summary of her January 1st visit to the Stockades with Kariandra (L35 Warrior) and Shinytoaster (L26 Paladin). Here's what she had to say:
A lot of people do a lot of different things to wind down after an instance run.. some just like to hand in the quests and get away from their computers for a while (usually to sleep...), some stay in their parties and discuss the run, what went well, what could have gone better etc.. others take the opportunity to meet up with others and just hang out. simply because they dont feel ready to quit just yet, but need some time to 'come down'...
During a post Deadmines gathering last night, Shinytoaster (lvl 26 paladin), Rianna (lvl 24 priest) and Kariandra (lvl 36 warrior and occasional model) were examining their quest logs, considering where they were headed next. When Shinytoaster spoke ! these fateful words*, 'I dont really have much i'd need help with... except i do have a few quests for the stockades...'
A quick and easy quest sharing and gathering later (thank you wowkindness.com!) the group were gathered at the steps leading down into the stockade..
The run itself was overall fairly well executed (excuse the pun), with swarms of escaped defias prisoners dispatched, swiftly and painlessly (for the party anyway) with excellent aggro management between Kariandra and Shinytoaster, and 'Healing by Rianna' (patent pending) :)
The only death of the run was, unfortunately, Shinytoaster, who during a fight with one Dextren Ward was struck with a fear effect... Paladins clearly respond differently to fear than other people, since his fear sent him charging into a room still filled with the last of the defias troublemakers... the resulting melee was chaos.. With Shinytoaster los! t quickly to the knives of 7 or 8 prisoners... only some truly frenetic taunting by Kariandra, and some (rather panicky) shielding and (desperately close) healing by Rianna managed to prevent a total party wipe. even then only barely!
Unfortunately during this confusion Shinytoaster was unable to complete one of the quests. (being 'indisposed' at the time the quest was completed.) so although we escaped with our lives... soon a day will come when we must return...
But if it will be as enjoyable as this time.. i'm actually kinda looking forward to it! :)
Rianna

Shadowfang Keep Memories
On Tuesday evening (December 27th, 2005), Shinytoaster (L24 Paladin) and Zim (L27 Warlock) needed to head off to Shadowfang Keep amidst the Horde in order to do some class-specific quests. We saddled up a class="auslink" href="http://www.wowkindness.com:8080/confluence/display/PROFILE/Shinytoaster">Shinytoaster (L24 Paladin), Zim (L27 Warlock), Kariandra (L35 Warrior), Wikket (L34 Paladin) and Elsheindra (L60 Druid) and off we went. I hesitate to admit this, but it was a walk in the park. Most of the monsters were only around L20-25, so it was pretty easy going. On the plus side, there was a campfire and dancing and, if you need help in Shadowfang Keep, you know which people to ask for an escort!

Blackfathom Deeps Successful Splashing
It's traditionally slow over the Christmas period, with lots of people away and all, but we have seen some nifty Christmas Caper adventures.
On Monday (December 26th), Shinytoaster (L22 Paladin), Zim (Mage), Rianna (L20/21 Priest), Kariandra (L35 Warrior), and Elsheindra (L60 Druid) went through Blackfathom Deeps and did the Hydra. Rianna levelled up during the run and was a tad low. Like most casters, she found it difficult to inflict much damage on monsters more than a few levels above her, but she was then able to concentrate on dealing out the heals while Kariandra tanked and pulled with Elsheindra. Elsheindra was a little high-level ( :-P ), but she tried to keep it even by fighting unarmed.
I interviewed Shinytoaster after the run to find out what he had learned. This is what he told me, "Don't activate all the candles at once." Upon closer questioning, however, it turned out he'd actually learned quite a bit by observing where things went well and where things didn't, especially to do with pulling and pets.
Elsheindra was heard to comment at the time about how, "... in my day, it was much harder!", probably because she went along without any level 60 escorts. The fact that the group had a L35 and a L60 escort saved them from at least two total party wipeouts. This reporter, a traitor to her sex apparently, has to say that Zim should learn to keep his women more firmly leashed as some deaths were due to an overzealous succubus running off into a room full of nasties and bringing them back! In the end, while Elsheindra paid 80s for repairs, only Rianna and Zim died during the run, and only once at that.
So, congratulations guys, on a nicely done teaching run.

Wednesdays Are Alt. Character Night
Have a low-level alternate character hanging around? The One is proud to announce that Wednesday evenings are now alternate character night on WoW. There's no specific time. Just fire up that low-level character and go questing with a new group of people from the Guild. You don't have an alternate character? Feel free to create one and then ask one of the Guild Officers to invite your alternate into the guild. Note: you do need to be logged in as the alternate character to be invited.
PS: If you're creating a new character, rogues, priests, druids, warlocks, and mages are in short supply in the Guild. (-:

Sally into the Stockade on Friday
Friday's (March 25, 2005) big quest event, after the weekly Swap Meet in Stormwind (@20.00 GMT), is to visit the Stockade. We'll be engaging in this engrossing adventure starting at 21:00 GMT, meeting at the Bank, in Stormwind.
This is a popular and quickly done instanced dungeon aimed at Levels 22-29. We're planning to take two groups of five into the dungeon. If you're interested coming with us, visit the Stockade quest planning page and sign up. Don't forget to login-in first to leave a comment.
Here's a quick summary of the available quests:
- L25 What Comes Around.... Pick up this quest from Guard Berton in Lakeshire, in the Redridge Mountains.
- L26 The Color of Blood. Pick up this quest from Nikova Rasakol. She wanders around the Old Town. This is a fairly profitable quest. It pays 40s.
- L26 Quell the Uprising. This is obtained right in the Stockade, before entering the instance, from Warden Thelwater. This also pays 40s, among any other rewards.
- L26 Crime and Punishment. Pick up this quest from Councilman Millstipe in the Darkshire Town Hall in Duskwood.
- L27 The Fury Runs Deep. Pick up this quest from Motley Garmason in Dun Modr, in the Wetlands. Dun Modr is in the northern part of the Wetlands.
- L27 Bazil Thredd. Pick up this quest from Baros Alexston in the Stormwind City Hall, in the Cathedral District. This is part of a series. You need to first do The Defias Brotherhood (AKA VanCleef, part of the Deepmines quests), and then The Unsent Letter (also part of the Deepmines quests).
- L29 The Stockade Riots. Pick this up from Warden Thelwater in the Stockade. It's part of a series. You need to first do The Defias Brotherhood (AKA VanCleef, part of the Deepmines quests), then The Unsent Letter (also part of the Deepmines quests), then Bazil Thredd, described above. So this will require more than one journey into the Stockade.

Revisit the Razorfen Kraul on Friday 18th March
Friday's big quest event, after the weekly Swap Meet in Ironforge (@20.00 GMT), is to revisit Razorfen Kraul. We'll be engaging in this engrossing adventure starting at 21:00 GMT, meeting in Ratchet, the Barrens.
This is an underappreciated instanced dungeon with a variety of quests aimed at Levels 26-34. We're planning to take two groups of five into the dungeon. If you're interested coming with us, visit the Razorfen Kraul quest planning page and sign up. Don't forget to login-in first to leave a comment.
Here's a quick summary of the available quests:
- L26 Blueleaf Tubers
. Pick up this quest from Mebok Mizzyrix in Ratchet, in the Barrens. He's beside the Bank in Ratchet. Don't forget to pick up the manual, crate and the staff to the left of him. - L27 Willix the Importer
. Pick up this quest from Willix inside the Razorfen Kraul. He's on the left side of the Kraul (after entering), not far from Heralath Fallowbrook for the Mortality Wanes quest. - L28 For warriors, Fire Hardened Mail
. Pick up this quest (part of a series) from Furen Longbeard in Stormwind (where ?). You first need to do The Shieldsmith
which can be picked up from Yorus Barleybrew in the Redridge Mountains (where ?). - L30 Mortality Wanes
. Pick up this quest from Heralath Fallowbrook in the Razorfen Kraul. You'll find him by taking the first left turning when you enter the dungeon and continuing along that side of the dungeon. This quest needs to be returned to Treshala Fallowbroook in Darnassus. Treshala can be found in the Tradesman's Terrace, on the second floor of the second big building heading south from the Warrior's Terrace. - L34 Krone of the Kraul
. Pick up this quest from Falfindel Waywarder in Thalanaar. It also ends with him. He's on the border of Thousand Needles/Ferlas. To pick up this quest, you first need to get and do Henrig Lonebrow's Journal
. The journal can be obtained at the bottom the Thousand Needles elevator (The Great Lift), lying on the ground south with a dead body, not far from the elevator. If it's not there, wait for a respawn (about 5 minutes, in the beta). Take the journal to Falfindel Waywarder. He'll then give you the Krone quest.

Deadmines To Be Revisited
After our last foray into the Deadmines instanced dungeon, we're raring to go again. We're planning another expedition for Friday, March 4th (tomorrow) at 21:00 GMT. We'll be meeting at Ironforge in front of the Auction House.
For those who haven't visited it before, there are at least two quests: Oh Brother (from Wilder Thistlenettle in Stormwind, in the Dwarven District) and Underground Assault (from Shoni the Shilent, in the square near the Deeprun Tram in Stormwind).
Valetta, Swiftsong, and Elsheindra are planning on going. That gives us a mage, a hunter, and a druid. At the moment, we have two other slots available. If you're interested in going, please post a comment with your character name/class.
Update:
There's another quest to be had in the Deadmines. Unfortunately, you'll need to do some pre-cursor quests first before you can pick it up. Commonly referred to as the VanCleef quest, the Defias Brotherhood is a series of quests that will send you running all over the place. See Defias Brotherhood (p1), Defias Brotherhood (p2), Defias Brotherhood (p3), Defias Brotherhood (p4), and Defias Brotherhood (p5). Apparently there's good loot to be had, so it's worthwhile to pick up the first four (the 4th is the Van Cleef one in the Deadmines).

Death and Destruction in the Deadmines
Swiftsong (Hunter), Valetta (Mage), Dimage (Hunter), Specialvat (Druid), and Elsheindra (Druid) headed off into the depths of the Deadmines instanced dungeon last night. For those who haven't done it, there are at least two quests: Oh Brother (from Wilder Thistlenettle in Stormwind, in the Dwarven District) and Underground Assault (from Shoni the Shilent, in the square near the Deeprun Tram in Stormwind).
I can't say we were completely successful. We spent 3.5 hours in the dungeon and reached the big ship at the end. It was at that point, that we completely lost the plot. Specialvat fell through an exit portal, putting us down to four. Swiftsong accidentally aggroed the captain and his officers, who rained death and destruction down on the rest of us. Only Swifty, healed by Elsheindra before she died, managed to make it intact to the exit portal and escape. At that we called it a night.
We did, however, learn some important lessons about working together in groups. I've broken these down by category.
Valetta's Mage Working Lessons
- Don't attack the sheep. They turn back into nasty dangerous monsters when attacked.
- Concentrate on killing the original monster pulled first. The mage will sheep the others, if possible.
- If you're a priest/paladin/druid acting as a healer, don't move around so much if you're being attacked, or the mage can't easily target the baddies to sheep them.
- Some monsters can't be sheeped. In the Deadmines, the mechanical monsters can't be sheeped. Concentrate on killing the unsheepable first.
Swiftsong's Hints on Hunters
- Learn to keep your pet well-fed. Well-fed pets don't run off. You can kill deer, bears, etc. for their meat specifically for this purpose. Some pets will only eat certain kinds of foods. Figure out which those are and keep a stock, even if it means you specifically have to acquire those foods.
- Do not mistake a hunter for a melee class. Just because you have a swoopy sword and a few cool moves, it doesn't make you a tank. You do more damage at range than you will close up.
- Make sure you have "auto-growl" on. This makes your pet automatically growl at monsters to draw aggro. It's cheap(er) to resurrect your pet than you.
- If your pet consistently runs out of focus (mana bar), turn "auto-bite" off so that the focus is saved for drawing aggro.
Groups and Pulling
- If your job is to pull, announce before you do it and how many incoming to expect.
- If your job is pulling, make sure your casters/healers have recovered from the last fight and have sufficient mana resources to go on. If you're a healer/caster, you can help by saying something like, "GTG" (good to go) or "OOM" (out of mana).
- If your job is pulling, aim to pull only one or two monsters at a time, if possible. Too many monsters makes it difficult for people to focus and increases the chance that multiple people will die. Don't run off pell-mell into a large group of monsters and then run back to the group (or continue forward) for this reason either.
- If you're not the designated puller, stick with the group. Going ahead can result in bad things, like: a) you can aggro too many monsters for the group to handle; or b) you get out of the reach of the group to help you or the healer to heal you. Either of these can result in your death or, worse, the death of your team members.
- If you aggro way too many monsters which will obviously overwhelm the group, run away from the group so that the monsters follow you. You will die, but the group's healer may be able to resurrect your safely when the monsters have abated, or you can return to the instance and the group. The rest of the group will then remain safe.

Supplies to Auberdine
New guild member Hatchoo invited guild members Elsheindra and Zetler to help complete the difficult Supplies to Auberdine quest, to take Feero Ironhand from Maestra's Post (Ashenvale) to the Ashenvale/Darkshore border. We were also joined by a friend of Hatchoo's, making a small party of four. Of the four, only Zetler and Hatchoo had the quest (it wasn't shareable) and we did the run twice before succeeding.
If you're going to do this quest, here are a few pointers:
- Wait until you're level 26+.
- Invite a few guild members or others to help you. This is not a good solo quest. Your group members can run interference and deal with the baddies that crop up.
- When Feero starts moving forward, make sure you go with him. The other group members helping you can mop up the baddies. If you get too far away from Feero, the quest will fail.
- Leave the bodies to be looted until after you complete the quest. There's no time usually to loot as you go and still stay close enough to Feero.

Stormwind Stockades Stormed
Swiftsong, Elsheindra, and Zetler teamed up with a non-guild mage and warrior to storm the barricades of the Stormwind Stockade instance dungeon tonight to attempt the following quests: The Color of Blood, Quell the Uprising, and Crime and Punishment. The first two quests were picked up in Stormwind: The Color of Blood came from Nikova Raskol, who wanders around the eastern loop of the Old Town and the other one came from Warden Thelwater at the Stockade. Crime and Punishment had to be picked up from Councilman Millstipe in the Darkshire Town Hall in Duskwood.
It was hard going. We now know why one of the quests was called "The Color of Blood." We saw a lot of that colour! Swiftsong and I were the lowest level of the group (22/23) and the quests were all orange elite when I picked them up. As usual, when dealing with humanoids, they can go get help. So when one was pulled, you might end up with three or four or more coming to help if you don't kill them off fast enough. Let's just say that we did a bit of dying before winning the day.
Given the large numbers of people Level 23+ in the Guild, this would make a good training ground. It's not too safe but still rewarding. There were some good equipment drops and the two Stormwind quests pay out 80s total.
If you're interested in doing these quests, please leave a comment and indicate a good day/time in the next week to go.

Blackfathom Depths (Turtle Island)
We're taking a small group into Blackfathom Depths today to complete three of the "easier" Blackfathom Depths quests: In Search of Thaelrid (pick it up from Caylais Moonfeather on the Aubderdine hippogriff pier in Darkshore; Researching the Corruption (pick it up from Gershala Nightwhisper in Auberdine. Not sure where he is at the moment); and Knowledge in the Deeps (picked up from Gerrig Bonegrip in the Forlorn Caverns in Ironforge). Swiftsong will be picking up the Knowledge in the Deeps quest and will be able to share it, but you'll need to pick up the two Auberdine ones.
This will be a good quest for training in how to "pull" in a group. If you're interested in going, there are two spaces available. Please message Zim or Swiftsong or Elsheindra. We'll be meeting at the Blackfathom Depths, on the Zoram Strand in Ashenvale, at 15:30 GMT (two hours from when this was posted).
Update:
We finished this quest. New guildmember Hatchoo (and wonderpet Bless) joined Swiftsong and Elsheindra. Enzymex was going to join us but got caught up in Raenid's Cleansing quests in Ashenvale. We discovered a place where rare loot is dropped, so we'll try to organize an expedition back (there are still more Blackfathom Depth quests) another day.
