Honourbound Alliance Downs Ragnaros

Congratulations to those Honourbound Alliance members led by Dezdemona (AKA Tasanala, GM of Illidans Redemption) who successfully downed Ragnaros in Molten Core yesterday along with visiting members of Iron Monkeys and Ye Olde Geezers. That's a long-time coming first the THB. Nice work! Check out the THB's Molten Core Progress page!

The First Level 70

Congratulations go out to Zam (mage) who became our first Level 70 character in the race to Level 70. Since he became the first around February 4th, we've had a number of other people reach Level 70:

Nice work, everyone!

The Hunt for Hakkar's Heart Triumphs!

The Honourbound Alliance (EU Thunderhorn) humbled Hakkar once again on our pre-Christmas December 23rd run. Once again, it was the dynamic duo of Basil (Roses of Dawn) and Elsheindra (The One) leading the forces of good on this epic adventure. To be honest, it didn't look good at the start of the adventure. However, I'm happy to report that, while we had a few people go down during the battle, everyone was standing by the time Hakkar fell. All hail, the successful Honourbound team!

Wiki Was Down But It's Back

You may have noticed that the guild member site was down for a number of hours today (~7). There was a planned outage while our hosting centre moved their server rooms from one floor of the building to another. It's now back up and running for your pleasure!

Honourbound Alliance Meeting Notes

An honourbound Alliance leaders meeting was held on August 13th. {person:Shekin} represented The One as the meeting was at 08:00 my time and too early. Here are some notes.

Meeting Notes

Current Alliance Guilds and Their Representatives

Each partipating guild should have one senior representative and two junior representatives who can attend meetings and who will help organized Honourbound events. Here's a list I've constructed based on the last two meetings.

Current Raiding Status

The Thursday evening raids have been going very well lately. We've been concentrating on Zul'Gurub on Thursdays. Last week Basil led on a 5-boss ZG adventure and the sign-up lists have been full lately. Excellent work, people. Keep it up!

We're also looking at days to run Molten Core in addition to Thursday's ZG run. To that end, we're running another raiding days/times poll. Make your voice count: vote now!

If you've noticed the absence of Sonarakbadak (L60 Hunter, Officer of The One), it's because he's off on an epic training quest for martial arts. He'll be back later towards the end of summer.

Tictacs Magical Random Kindness

Early in April, I was approached by a perfect stranger who had gone to some pains to track down the Guild Mistress of The One. He wished to profess his thanks and admiration for the ideals of The One after Merlins, his level 5 mage, had a pleasantly kind encounter with Tictacs, then an initiate. I asked Nightmares to drop me a note with a story that could be used on our web site and this is the result.

Elsheindra

To: Elsheindra (GM, The One)
From: Nightmares/Merlins
Date: April 10, 2006

I was happily questing with my mage Merlins in Elwyn forest when suddenly i was attacked by not one but 3 mangy wolves thanks to the lovely aggro we have. Albeit it they were all only level 6 however when you are a mage of level 5 yourself your odds are not that good. I was on the verge of dying when next thing i know they are all dead, i look around to see a night elf hunter by the name of Tictacs who had just saved my life. He then kindly gave me a mix batch of elixors for me to use for free, and asked me if i needed any help. I kindly accepted his help, which he stayed questing with me for 2 hours, we killed Hogger the first elite of lower levels, princess the hog, the defias, murlocs etc.. Unfortunately i had to go but by the time i left i was level 11, i couldn't believe he had stayed helping me for so long as he would have had quests to be doing himself.

He then told me about the philosophy of The One, your acts of kindness and "paying it forward" i was so impressed by this as i had never heard of a Guild like this before. I asked him the name of your Guild Master Elsheindra which i contacted and approached to let her know of the kindness one of her members had bestowed upon me. Which she then directed me to the site, i have read your philosophy and i am very impressed there should be more gamers like yourself then our gaming time would be that just more enjoyable. I will be paying it forward for sure!

So finally i would just like to thank Tictacs again for all his help and The One for being a truly special Guild.

Merlins

The Honourbound Alliance & GEM

Your officers have been busy forging cross-guild alliances again. As mentioned on February 5th, 2005, the One is a purposefully small guild, to help maintain and promote friendships and good times amongst all members. That does make it somewhat difficult to go on end-game runs. As a result, we're now part of cross-guild alliance known as the Honourbound Alliance.

At the moment, the Honourbound Alliance is made up of a combination of social guilds, like the Roses of Dawn, and smaller guilds who don't wish to become large. I'm not completely sure of the exact guild list, but I know the following guilds are currently involved:

The primary organizer, so far, is Cloista (L60 Rogue, Roses of Dawn). There's supposed to eventually be a web site for the Honourbound Alliance. We'll let you know when that happens.

In the meantime, cross-guild events in the Honourbound Alliance, are being coordinated through the use of GEM, the Guild Event Manager add-on. This add-on allows us to create events easily which can be seen by all subscribed Honourbound Alliance members and subscribe to such events. The theory is supposed to be that large raids should always be cross-guild, with sign-up on a first-come, first-served basis, dependent only on classes required. However, GEM can also be used for creating smaller guild-only events for 5-man instances. Our GEM info page has a link to download the latest version of the mod, plus instructions on how to configure it properly (with pictures). As some of the information is restricted (channel name/password), please be sure to login first . The channel name/password are also in our "Guild Info Panel" in the game. If you have any questions, add a comment to the bottom of the GEM info page or ask on the Guild Channel. Everyone should install GEM.

In addition to GEM, we also share a cross-guild chat channel. It uses the same channel name and password as the GEM add-on. You can use this channel to talk to other cross-guild participants or to round up some additional help for some adventure. If you don't have the GEM add-on installed and join the channel using "/join ChanName ChanPassword", you will see general chit-chat but also, unfortunately, the GEM add-on talking to itself as it shares information.

Alliances and Allies

The One is a purposefully small guild, to help maintain and promote friendships and good times amongst all members. While that produces a very nice social environment for all of us where we can still train people to play comptetently and we can be laid back, it does mean it's difficult for high-level players to find enough company to attempt large-scale instances. We're not the only non-zerg guild with this problem. The Roses of Dawn, much larger than we are, also have this problem and they were one of the first guilds we allied ourselves with. You may have noticed that we've done some past formally-organized cross-guild adventures with them, including the Lower Blackrock Spire run and Sunken Temple. There has been quite a bit of spontaneous collaboration via our new shared channel tor, too.

We've also been recently approached by the Greedy Kidz, a Russian-speaking non-zerg guild, who are neither greedy nor kids. They're just starting their first forays into larger instances like Zul'Gurrab and invited some of us to tag along the other night.

Both the Roses and the Greedy Kidz are part of a new alliance of guilds that will be known as (I have no idea why) The Honour Bound who will cooperate on doing larger instances, like Molten Core and Zul'Gurrab, because most of the non-zerg guilds don't have sufficient numbers of Level 60s on their own to organize such events. Keep an eye out for more information on alliances.

In the meantime, please type "/join tor" to join the joint Roses/One channel (tor is short for "The One Roses"). And when you need players for a spontaneous run or what-have-you, you can ask in there as well.

Impressive Instancing

Last week was especially busy in the guild. The guild meeting saw a turnout of 13 people: Elsheindra, Swiftsong, Valetta, Schnurbart, Zam, Sonarakbadak, Naruldzad, Teraya, Dimage, Grotlik, Bluesdiva, Bluesdaddy and Kyza. With so many of us around, we stopped off at the Stormwind outer castle bridge to take a new guild photograph. I'm hoping someone sends me a copy soon!

After the guild meeting, we sent off two separate groups to go adventuring. The first group, led by Izrafil, Naruldad's lower-level alternate, headed out to Blackfathom Deeps Danger. In the end, due to a shortage of a fifth appropriately-levelled person, Naruldzad went as his Level 60 druid self, escorting Bluesdiva, Bluesdaddy, and Grotlik. Rumour has it that Bluesdaddy died at least once and, when resurrected, immediately died again because he was underwater and out of breath. Oops! Other than that, GIS sources inform us that all went well. Congratulations!

The second group, led by Steelpernik (an alternate of Sonarakbadak), headed off to do the popular Deadmines Drama, looking to take the head of VanKleef. Steelpernik's team was made up of Moondance (Priest), Teraya (Warrior), and Minidim (Warrior). The fifth slot was filled by a pick-up person in the area. Great fun was had by all!

There was another major instance adventure last week as well. Elsheindra (Druid), Schnurbart (Warrior), Swiftsong (Hunter), and Zam (Mage) teamed up with Balkin, a pickup player, to tackle the Sunken Temple. A 7-hour major epic adventure ensued (with a few breaks). And when we thought we were done, we discovered we have one more quest there still. Nevertheless, except for a few party wipeouts, it was a great outing!

Blue Members and 60 Mages

It's hard to believe, but already a month has gone by since we were joined by the Blues team as initiates. The Guild is pleased to announce that Bluesdaddy and Bluesdiva have passed through their initiate period with flying colours (blue colours, to be exact) and are now welcomed as full members of The One. Hurrah for the Blues and their Gnomish mentor Schnurbart.

In other news, fellow officer Valetta, despite protestations of not playing when the rest of us aren't around, has reached the ranks of the Level 60 elite. Congratulations, Val!

New Initiates and Promotions!

The One is pleased to announce the recruitment of another husband and wife team this week: Bluesdaddy (a L14 druid) and Bluesdiva (a L14 druid). Since we love druids and the colour blue, this is very exciting! They should fit right in. Please make them welcome during their one-month initiate period.

We've also had some recent promotions: Sonarakbadak successfully completed his initiate period and was promoted to full member! Congrats, Sonar!

Dimage (mighty Hunter with wondercat Saga) has been promoted to Veteran, as was our other bouncy, bopping gnome Zam. Congratulations to them too!

The One Sheds Pounds Quickly!

The One has gone on a massive diet, losing players and weight. So if you notice people missing, that will likely be why. Most players left in a friendly fashion. While we're sorry to see them go, this is a great opportunity to initiate a new campaign to promote and shape the Guild for fun, friendly, social playing while practicing Random Acts of Kindness.

If you're someone who left, we're sorry to see you go. Note that your alts. have been removed (if you didn't remove them already) and your web site access has been deactivated. Pleasant questing and good luck in the world!

The Chosen One

As a guild devoted to Random Kindness, we have to remember that, to be in a position to be kind to others, we need to be kind to ourselves. To that end, The One is pleased to announce the start of "The Chosen One" program (name courtesy of Valetta).
Each week, the Start page will announce this week's "Chosen One". The Chosen One will be a low-level guild character (Below L30) who can specifically ask for items to improve their profession or class skills. During the course of the week, if you run across some of their requested items, just send them along via mail or exchange them in person.

The first "Chosen One" is Zworg, a L28 Priest. She's looking for company during questing (escort, anyone?) and a decent staff with either healing or damage bonuses. If you can help, let her know!

First Level 60!

Banger reaches Level 60 first in the Guild in a blaze of glory! That's right. You heard it here first. On April 21st, 2005, Banger reached level 60 in only 23 days, 21 hours, 12 minutes, and 48 seconds of solid playing time. Congratulations!

Now that he's there, he still has 200,000+ XP points to gain to finish out that level and then to decide what he's going to do next. As we all know, the world doesn't just suddenly end when you reach Level 60. There's much left to explore and acts of kindness to be done. Hurrah for The One!

Visit Banger's Guild Profile page (login first at the top right of the page) and drop a comment off to congratulate him on his hard work.

Guild Promotions

Likely when you haven't been looking, we've been growing by leaps and bounds. Last week saw the very popular and fun-loving Schnurbart join our merry ranks as a full member. This week, it's the high-flying (and high-levelled) Fantasy and Criollo. Congratulations to all three, and welcome to the Guild!

Remember: any full member of the Guild can ask or recommend that someone new be allowed to join the Guild as an initiate. Proposed initiates need a mentor/sponsor and an invitation from one of the Guild Officers.

Guild Tabard Fund and Designs

The official guild tabard fund is now open. In order to get a tabard design, we need to first pick one and second pay for it. The cost for a guild tabard is 10g, which we're going to spread out amongst all existing guild members as best we can. The Guild Tabard page contains a list of currently recorded donations. If you don't see yours, poke Valetta (valettaATwowkindnessDOTcom) who manages the Guild Bank.

Most members below Level 30 probably can't afford to donate an entire guild -- at least not until the reduced class training costs come into effect with the next big patch release on March 18th. Current suggested donations for members are:

Levels 1-5: 1s
Levels 6-10: 2s
Levels 11-15: 5s
Levels 16-20: 10s
Levels 21-25: 20s
Levels 26-30: 50s
Levels 31+: 1g+

Donations can be sent to Theonebank, our guild bank character. Make sure to indicate in the mail that it's for the Guild Tabard.

The Guild Tabard page also contains a gallery of currently suggested/submitted designs for our tabard. Elsheindra has started us off with three submissions using current guild colours (from the websites) and the emblem of the Kindness droplet with its effects rippling out to the entire server.

Recruiting

Recruiting

Members are generally brought into the guild on recommendation of an existing member. If you don't know an existing member but like the concept of a guild devoted to random acts of kindness, /tell Elsheindra or Swiftsong.

Any current member in good standing can sponsor a new member. Ask a guild officer to bring the initiate in. As the initiate's sponsor, you will be responsible for the initiate. Your responsibilities include:

At the end of two weeks, the initiate will be evaluated. All guild members can anonymously vote at wowkindness.com at anytime during the two weeks on whether the initiate should become a member, leave the guild or be evaluated for a further week.

Evaluation is not a question of simply whether the initiate follows the rules. It can be completely subjective. It is an evaluation from each member on how well the initiate feels like he belongs in the guild. This is our spare time. We are evaluating whether the new member makes our spare time more or less enjoyable.

The spirit a person shows is more important than experience. Inexperienced players with a good attitude are welcome. Social, helpful and giving players will find the best home here.

While a player's attitude is the chief concern, following is a secondary list of preferred classes based on broadening the current makeup of the guild.

Classes wanted in order of priority
Priest
Paladin
Warrior
Warlock
Mage
Rogue
Druid

Elsheindra (Druid)
Swiftsong (Hunter)
Dimage (Hunter)
Ginge (Warrior)
Shalia (Rogue)
Siddea (Rogue)
Specialvat (Druid)
Speedbaby (Paladin)
Valetta (Mage)
Zetler (Hunter)

We've also added two new members already: Zim (Warlock) and Enzymex (Hunter).

Guild Charter Problems

After carefully selecting the initial members of "The One" guild on Thunderhorn, we collected the last required signature last night in Stormwind from Valetta. Unfortunately, when we tried to submit the guild charter, we discovered the registration process is buggy. During the registration process, which failed, we actually lost our signed guild charter, the charter fee, and the ability to use the name. The response from Blizzard was that they are aware of problems with the guild creation process and they recommend the following:

  1. Having all charter members online when the charter is submitted.
  2. Having all charter members be on the same continent when the charter is submitted.

To that end, we'll be having a Guild Meeting in Ironforge this Friday. See the Announcements section for more information.
