Invasion of the Gnomish Body Snatchers!

Unsuspecting guild members are apparently being snatched away, being replaced by cunningly crafted, (but not particularly well disguised) Gnomish impersonators... see the shocking photo evidence below

THB Downs Shade of Aran & Sees the Prince

While Katsui is away, Basil & Elsheindra will play. Last week's Thursday (October 4th) and Tuesday (October 9th) runs were handled by the dynamic B&E team, as Katsui and Algoran were both absent. They weren't the only ones absent. The result was an extremely cross-THB group of people who not only managed to pull together on short notice, but made some very wicked progress.

On the Thursday, the group made it through Attumen/Midnight, Moroes, the Opera Event, and downed the Curator on the first try! Alas, although they made two or three attempts on the Shade of Aran (a first for THB), they were unable to down him that night. However, on Tuesday, things were different. Down went the Shade of Aran on the second try, leaving the group time to do the Chess Event and to try the Prince a few times (another THB first). Although they failed on the Prince, it was an excellent demonstration of the possibilities available to a casual raiding group when people are properly geared and can produce good damage for their classes.

The group for the night:

  • Basil (Melee, Roses of Dawn)
  • Popcorn (Melee, The One)
  • Whiro (Melee, The One)

  • Kanine (Main Tank, Roses of Dawn)
  • Trebax (Off Tank, Circle of Elder)

  • Elsheindra (Main Healer, The One)
  • Kaatje (Main healer, Ye Olde Geezers)
  • Shazbot (Main Healer, Phoenix Legion)

  • Wheat (Ranged DPS, Circle of Elder)
  • Badgerboi (Magical DPS, The One)

Perhaps if the instance server hadn't chosen to crash on Tuesday night, we would have had more attempts on the Prince and downed him, but I think we were all happy with what did happen. Great teamwork and a fantastic demonstration of the power of THB!

Hello again...

Hello all

I'm back! I've kinda of unexpectedly found myself with more free time than I anticapated now that Lilly has settled down, (I think I've attached a pic of the little minx called small-lilly.jpg) and I've being playing wow again (whophee!).

I was hoping (after such a long break) that it would be okay to be part of the 'gang' again - I didn't want to sign back up until I knew I could play this damn addictive game on a more regular basis

So hopefully see you guys soon - I can perfectly understand if there any objections - If all is okay I will log on as one of my 'One' toons and ask for my present alt to be invited.

...and plus the chicken run event sounds fun

Trips.

THB Karazhan Groups Update
Last changed: Jan 26, 2008 20:44 by Elsheindra
Labels: thb, thboldnews

New Teams

If you've been keeping an eye on GEM, you'll have noticed a recent proliferation of Karazhan runs, as the THB launched three fixed 10-person Karazhan groups recently. Team Pink, led by Katsui (Roses of Dawn), was the first. Team Blue, led by Terhen and Drennior (The One), has been resurrected and started running last week. This week sees the first runs of Wheat and Trebax's (Circle of Elder) Team Red.

With the exception of Team Pink, which already existed to some degree, the teams were created predominantly from people on the "Karazhan WAITING For A Raid Group" list on GEM (date for that is set to 10/31 currently, but I'll push it forward shortly). A complete list of the teams and their members can be found (or will be available shortly) on the the revised Karazhan raiding information page.

Not On A Team?

If you're not on a team, just because the existing teams have fixed slots doesn't mean you won't be able to go. The team leaders will be posting their events on GEM. Fixed members always get priority but they won't always be available to go. In which case, replacements will be needed. As I write this, Team Blue needs three replacements for tonight's run, as several people happen to be away today, for example. So do feel free to add yourself to a posted event, especially if they've indicated they know they will have extra slots.

The other thing to do is to add yourself to the waiting list. As raid leaders and people become available, we'll try to make up additional teams.

How Teams Are Created/Gear & Mod Requirements

Raid leaders consider several factors when making up their fixed raid groups. The first is balance. Certain classes will make or break the raid. The obvious ones are tanks and healers. No tanks and healers, then no run. The second is gear. In order to make good progress in Karazhan, all participants should meet the following minimum requirements:

  1. The majority of your gear should be level 68 blues (or better), with appropriate enchantments and gems.
  2. You need at least 6000 hit points unbuffed if you're a ranged class and significantly more if you're a tank (10,000+). This is because the Shade of Aran does burst damage. 7000+ is actually better.
  3. You should have a PvE specification, as this includes aggro reduction.
  4. You should have completed at least part of a heroic instance as they're comparable in difficulty and the need for aggro management.

If your gear is poor or it looks like your damage (for damage-dealing classes) or healing is going to be low, you probably won't get chosen for a group. For DPS classes, that's at least a sustained DPS rate of 350 and preferably 400. For healers, you're looking at least +1000 heal. Tanks should be immune to critical strikes. With only 10 people, it's not like Molten Core or Zul'Gurub where you could easily accommodate some undergeared players.

Once you are chosen, you will need to install some raid mods. At a minimum, you should have:

  • Omen or KLHThreatMeter (AKA KTM)
  • oRA2 or another CT_RaidAssist-compatible raid assistance system.

Even if you don't use these yourself, they're useful to the tanks, healers, and raid leaders for keeping track of what's going on. If you're a damage-dealing class, it's often important to know when you're out-aggroing the tank, so that's why a threat meter that shares information with other participants is required. Most of these can easily be found by typing in the name of the mod, warcraft, and download into Google, i.e. "omen warcraft download". Ask your raid leader or THB rep for assistance in choosing the right one or configuring/installing the mods.

The third requirement is that you're available on the nights the raid leader wants to go. Each raid leader, usually in consultation with his/her preferred tanks/healers, has chosen a set of raiding days. They are not all the same. You will need to be able to make a commitment to be available most weeks on the chosen days for that raid. Too many missing people on too short of notice can cancel a run.

Progress

Whether you're in a fixed group or not, you might be interested in how we're making out. That information is available on The One's Karazhan Raiding Progress page for each of the teams.

Summary

Let's go out there and take the bosses down in generous, kind THB style. Have fun out there!

Team Blue continue to wreak havoc in Karazhan
Last changed: Oct 22, 2007 18:25 by Drennious

Team Blue, lead by me and Trovlard, continued their great success in Monday's Karazhan raid. After last weeks attempts on Curator foiled by a server crash, we returned with a vengeance.

The evening began well with Attumen downed with haste and precision. Our rougish friend Moroes and his fellow guests posed little trouble to the raid, with him being downed in one attempt and zero casualties. Maiden of Virtue's holy rampage was put to an end, also on the first attempt.

Team Blue progressed on to Opera, where we fought Romulo & Julianne. Experience from the previous week helped us defeat the lovers in a single attempt. With plenty of time left, the raid went on to The Curator. Thanks to an organised, powerful DPS team, lightning fast healers and excellent execution and positioning, we managed to defeat him on our first attempt.

After just a few runs, the team has come together very well and has shown amazing potential. I look forward to seeing what we can accomplish in the future. Congratulations Team Blue!

Recruiting Closed
Labels: news

Applications have been pouring in over the last four weeks. In fact, we've received 6 alone this week already and 7 in the few weeks prior to that. Of the 13 applications, 6 have already been accepted, with a potential seventh pending. We've already seen four of those people arrive in the last week.

Seven new people in a month is a lot of people to absorb and it will be difficult for us because of our small size. As such, any applications received after the pending one a day or two ago have now been rejected because we're full. The site's application form is closed until December or January.

There is such a thing as being too popular! You may wonder why we close the application process. It's because if too many new people come in at a time, it's very difficult to maintain the guild's atmosphere and traditions, as a large number of people will obviously be unfamiliar with them. In addition, it's difficult to find mentors for large numbers of new people and to provide support in the forum of adventuring with them, etc. We've learned this lesson in the past the hard way.

Red Team Week 1

Hey All

Well Team Red have had our first 2 nights in Karazhan and we have had a lot of fun We were off to a great start when Attumens Mount dropped on our first kill grats to Roguess on that one. We went upstairs and some truly excellent improvisation from such a new team when we lost a healer a dps and a cc early in the fight was enough to ensure Moroes hit the floor on our first attempt. Maiden took a couple of goes but sure enough down she went and we all learned a lot for next time on that one. Continuing on night one we were very unlucky not to drop Romoeo and Juliet dropping Romeo 1 second too late :/.

Red Team came back fighting on night 2 though R&J dropped like a minor inconvenience and we went straight round the back to meet the Curator. It was the first go at Curator for many of the team on that fight and for some a first visit to Karazhan so we learned positioning on the first go and on the second go Curator dropped with hardly a raised heartbeat among the team and plenty to spare. We had a quick chat and decided we would go and say Hi-ho to Shade of Aran just for the experience and to let him know we would be coming back soon . We lost 3 dps within 10 seconds but still managed to get him to 60% on our first go. With that bit of experience under our belt to give us food for thought and at least some idea of a strategy best suited to Red for Aran we headed off to farm some epics from Chess. As is becoming normal the server had a freak out and Karinaaru and I were dc'd and unable to return but the 8 remaining members were not to be deterred and finished off Chess anyway

All in all and excellent first visit to Karazhan we have much to learn and many adventures to face but we will all be stronger for this weeks experience many thanks to all the team, the passion and effort shown by all reaped rewards and I look forward to next week starting on Thursday

Best regards,

New Chat Bug & GEM Problems
Labels: thbnews

Blizzard silently made some kind of update to the way guild and private channels (like the Honourbound channel) work on Tuesday afternoon. You may have noticed that periodically you'll type something and it doesn't get sent. It may take two or three or more tries before it will go and the ones sent before that just never arrive. This bug impacts the way GEM works. Your GEM mod communicates with other GEM mods using the Honourbound channel. You don't see it because the mod filters out the content that's designed just for its own use. The GEM mod probably sends/receives more information on the THB channel than you do. When information is lost, it doesn't know to resend it. As a result, GEM lists are getting mucked up as information is being exchanged and lost. There's nothing we can do ourselves to fix this. It's not a GEM bug. It's a Blizzard bug. I will post a Technical Support forum thread about it as I haven't seen one to date, although the problem seems fairly widespread.

To easily resend content you've sent yourself:

  • press <enter> to re-enter the chat line interface
  • press <alt><up-arrow> to retrieve the last line you sent
  • press <enter> to resend that line.

You can press <alt><up-arrow> multiple times to go back in your chat history.

Farewell

Labels: comingsgoings

It's time to say you all farewell.

The dwarven warriors are going to the happy hunting grounds.

It was a pleasure to be part of the most joyfull guild of Thunderhorn. I have been riding with some more then others, and some of you will keep a certain spot in my heart, even we havn't met eachother in RL.

On demand of my favourite gnome, I'll had for a limited time the pictures of my RL tribe.

Our heritage will be donated for a good cause.

And as on every good funeral, some free drinking will be given tuesdaynight in our beloved pub. If the Kara run wont be finished before then, no worries, beers will be provided afterwards by the waitress.

Have fun all and have a good life in RL.

New GEM Release. Everyone Must Upgrade!
Labels: thbnews, news

There is a new version of the Guild Event Manager (GEM) software that the Honourbound Alliance uses to coordinate shared raid, social, and instance events. The 2.27 release attempts to address the recent lost sends experienced by THB members in both their guild channels and in the shared Honourbound channel, as described in my earlier news posting about New Chat Bug & GEM Problems from October 25th.

The new release attempts to solve the problem by increasing the amount of time GEM must wait between sending messages. Note, these are not the messages you are typing. The mod itself works by sending messages to the Honourbound channel. You don't see these mod messages because your mod filters them out and uses them to update your copy of the GEM events calendar. Due to the way information is shared, it's vitally important that everyone update. People who don't update will still lose information which will result in their copies of the event calendar being wrong and then shared incorrectly with other people, continuing to cause events to disappear or people not to appear signed up, etc.

You can update by downloading a copy from one of the following locations:
