So we finally got the ventrilo server. And as far as I can hear ppl like it. Thow I have to get a new headset since mine is not to good annymore. It has ben arround since the beginning of Counterstrtike so time has not been to kind to it.
Funny is that I asked the guild if I should set up a vent server about 1.5 years ago. Can´t say that the interest was to great then. Guess ppl just have to try it to findout how fun it can be.
I don´t think the writing time is over. But I do know that manny of us will use vent alot from now on. i know I will..

The Honourbound visited the issue of voice communication systems earlier this year, but some guilds rejected the idea of having a server because of hardware issues for their members and because WoW was supposed to be adding voice communication shortly.
I had Shekin researching options for them last year. While we could host them privately on people's DSL and suchlike, that wasn't a very reliable solution. The person hosting it needed to leave their computer online all the time, some personal free servers were limited in the number of clients they were allowed, and ADSL is, by its nature, significantly slower uploading than downloading, all of which have an effect on such servers, especially when the numbers of people using them go up.
The new server is commercially hosted with a guaranteed uptime and professional people to keep the network running and the software properly maintained, upgraded, and patched. At the moment, Basil and I are paying for it personally, but there is a provision for people to donate towards its operating costs via donations through PayPal/credit cards made directly to the commercial host and credited to our invoice (donation information available on the THB Ventrilo Page). Ping times seem very good (16 to 22ms normally), so I'm quite pleased.
The vent server i had acces to had a limit of 100+ ppl. Was on a high feed line(10gig or better) and had no problem with downtime. The friend of mine that was running it had it on a seperate computer(he has 6 of them running al the time) and the comp was state of the art.
Had a talk to him today to see if we could still us it. Turns out that he updated it to the newest server client(same as we use) but the limit of ppl was only 8. Lookes like they want you to pay for the number of ppl you want on it. So this is not a usable server for us annymore. Was hoping we could use it as a talk place. That way we would not fill up the one we have. And it would be easier when comes to raiding since you don´t have to kick ppl from the vent in order to get the raid party in.
Well lets hope we can expand the vent server in the future so limit will be of no problem.
