Gaining on Gruul
Last changed: Jun 06, 2008 06:04 by Elsheindra Labels: thbnews
The Honourbound Alliance had a great visit to Gruul's Lair on Tuesday evening, shored up by some members of Bluesky's Riders of the Storm guild. Despite a rotating cast of thousands (we swapped out several people during the run), we had Gruul down to 17% on at least two attempts that evening. Victory is within reach, so there's only one thing to say: Next time, Gruul!
Team Pink Tries To Tame Zul'Aman
Last changed: Jun 06, 2008 06:11 by Elsheindra Labels: thbnews, karateampink, zateampink
Last Thursday (May 29th), Team Pink decided to zip off to Zul'Aman instead of tackling Karazhan as usual. It was Team Pink's first trip into Zul'Aman, although several of its members are also members of Team Terracotta, the Honourbound's regular running Zul'Aman team.
It was a great evening. With Missable and Muaddib tanking (Kanine was unavailable that evening), Team Pink managed to down the first three bosses. Considering that Team Terracotta has only downed the first four, that was an excellent performance. Well done, Team Pink!
Team Pink will be visiting Zul'Aman again next Thursday (June 12th). Follow their progress on the Zul'Aman Raid Progress.

The One's Onyxia fun.
Last changed: Jun 06, 2008 17:17 by Dérthon
We are happily to present you 4 Man Onyxia.
http://img391.imageshack.us/my.php?image=onyxiamt8.jpg
Our 4man team was:
Derthon
Jeanda
Shinytoaster
Dimage
We had fun doing the old instance and i've decided with jeanda to continue doing this in the future for fun
It will be done max 5man to keep it more interesting because it would be very easy with higher amount of players.
There are 3 spots every week so contact me in-game with whispers or mail if you are interested. Atleast 1 ranged dps and then healer or another DPS melee/ranged. We are not sure what day we do it next week but we'll try to choose day where noone has raids.

Bank Policy Updated
Last changed: Jun 08, 2008 13:01 by Elsheindra
While it was always, I believe, explicitly understood that items in the guild bank were intended for use by guild members directly and not to be sold, I've been forced to update the Guild Bank and Guild rules to include the following clause:
No selling of guild bank items for profit. Selling or giving away guild bank items for profit is an immediate kicking offense.

Use GEM To Organize Instance Events!
Last changed: Jun 10, 2008 07:00 by Elsheindra Labels: thbnews
You may not realize this but anyone has the power to plan and organize instance events using GEM. That's right! GEM isn't just for raiding. If you'd like to organize a group to Magister's Terrace, you can create a new event in GEM, set the time, set the group size, and become your own facilitator. You have the PoWAH!
Creating the Event
So, how do you do it?
- Open GEM either by clicking the icon around your minimap or typing /gem toggle.
- Once GEM is open, click the New tab at the bottom (see Figure 1).

Figure 1: The "New" tab in GEM
- Set up the "Where" location. You have four drop-down menus on the right-hand side (see Figure 2). One for miscellaneous events (Misc): PvP, questing, 10-person, 20-person, etc. events. One for Burning Crusade Raid Events (not relevant). One for Burning Crusade instances (BC): Caverns of Time, Blood Furnace, Arcatraz, etc. One for pre-TBC instances (Classic): Deadmines, Stratholme, Dire Maul, etc.

Figure 2: Choose Where
- Fill in a comment with some additional information, like whether it's a guild-only run, whether you need specific types of players, etc (see Figure 3).

Figure 3: Add a comment
- Next, we need to set the time and date. Click on the "Choose" button. It will pop-up a little calendar (right) and some drop-downs (left) to choose the time. Choose the time first using the drop-downs, then click the date. After you click the date, the time/date picker will close.
Note: The time it uses is your local time unless you have previously ticked "Use server time" in the GEM Options tab.
- Fill in the size of raid group/level range. It defaults to 5 people but the level range is 1 to 70. Set that appropriately. You can also stipulate a minimum and a maximum number (you can do one or both) of sign-ups for a given class. When a maximum is reached, others signing up of that class will automatically be subscribed as "substitutes".
- Make sure you've chosen the right GEM channel and right character using the drop-down boxes at the bottom (see Figure 4). Then click "Create" to create the event in GEM.

Figure 4: Create the event
Other Notes
It's not really that hard, but there are some things you should think of in advance:
- Make sure you post the event far enough ahead of when you want to do it that people have the chance to sign up.
- Think about the group make-up you'll need. 5 random people probably just isn't going to do it! You can post specific requests for roles in the comment.
- Don't create the GEM event when hardly anyone is online or your event won't propagate. GEM works by passing information between players. If there aren't any players around or very few, then the information doesn't get shared very well!
- GEM Options: You might find it handy to change some of your GEM options to make it work better.
- I use "%a %d/%m/%y %H:%M" as my displayed dates format, which gives me events shown in the list as "Tue 10/06/08 20:30" for example.
- I have "Use server time" ticked. Any events I create are therefore in server time and any events I see listed are also in server time. That's the time that's common to everyone.
- I have "Use only listed events" unticked. The default for this is ticked. When it's ticked, you can't just enter whatever you want into the "Where" field by typing. It forces you to use a location from the drop-down boxes.
- Don't forget your own event. If you create an event, make sure you show up to run it. Don't just assume that because no-one signed up, nobody was interested. Sometimes people don't sign up but are online at the right time.
Have fun with GEM. If you need help, your THB rep should be able to give you a hand or advice in setting it up or practical advice in running a group.

Hi everyone,
just thought i would say hello
2008/06/23
Greetings and Goodbyes.
Last changed: Jun 23, 2008 05:37 by Dérthon Labels: comingsgoings
I want to thank the The One and THB, i had alot of fun while being in here. I still have two weeks before i've to leave to the army but things that happened today (sunday) made me change some of my plans. I really wanted to do the lasts raids before i had to leave but some completely weird things which i'ven't seen before in THB made me completely change my mind.
Anyways thanks to everyone in The One, you have been very kind.
I won't be leaving the guild while i'm in the army (Elsh might kick me though) and i probably will be back after the army.
So to everyone: Have fun and keep the THB spirit up although it died today for me and i'm sorry that this post is crying than actually anything useful.
-Greedy bastard signing out, i hope you see you all when i'm back.
EDIT: removed all the rant.
The Future of Team Purple
Last changed: Jun 23, 2008 11:24 by Shekin Labels: karateampurple, thbnews
For the last few weeks, my interest in running Team Purple has been flagging, as has interest in the raid generally. I have been seeing progressively fewer and fewer signups each week, and increasing numbers of no-shows. This delays the start of the raid, and slows down progress to the point where Team Purple, once able to almost clear the place in one night, now struggle to reach and kill Prince, skipping the optionals.
With this in mind, I have decided to place Team Purple on hiatus, until such time that I can reform a team that I am confident will make progress.
On GEM is an event to sign up if you are interested in a spot with Team Purple.
Whilst we are not a dedicated raiding guild or alliance, I would ask that people who put their names down are able to attend most weeks (barring emergencies) as finding replacements takes time, and slows progress.
THB Reps can you please repost this on your forums, and let your members know.

Final Decisions/Major Points
- Welcome
- Regrets: Laraellia's (CC) & Jazhara (YoG).
- Moonsugar is welcomed as the first CC rep to attend a THB meeting.
- Guild Health Check
- Ye Olde Geezers (Cannonfodder): Team Green have Karazhan practically on farm now. Guild plodding along. Not currently recruiting as being picky. Enjoying Gruul and can't wait for SSC and Maggy.
- Roses of Dawn (Basil): RoD not being less picky than usual in recruiting. They've gained some people and lost some, probably equals out. Some new people in THB events, which is nice, but they probably need more gearing up. Team Pink going through some personnel changes. Fingers crossed that first slot filled by shiftworkers in a timeshare. Looking forward to new instances now that Gruul down. Maybe Maggy on Tuesdays or move Gruul to weekend and do SSC/TK on Tuesdays. Participating Roses seem happy, so things well.
- The One (Elsheindra): Never recruits wildly and has a maximum cap of 50 individuals. Most lost people to Nefarious replaced. Any One who wants to raid generally is. Continue to be cheerful, vocal people that we are. Quieter in the summer.
- Phoenix Legion (Gimlinox): Not much different. Not many active players at the moment. 80% of guild offline. All officers left to raid, so only Gimlinox left as an officer. So only a handful left but having fun. Gimlinox is going to ZA. 2 or 3 going to Gruul. Not getting a lot of support, but Basil comments that it's getting regular support. Elsheindra asks if THB can do anything, but Gimlinox doesn't think so. Large guild, so Gimlinox hopes more people come online with high levels to raid with.
- CursedCrusaders (Moonsugar): Plodding along at slow speed; not fussy about who recruited, but they have to be at least 50+ and are checked at http://www.warcraftrealms.com/ to see how many guilds they've belonged to previously, to see if they're serious or not. Fairly difficult getting members interested in THB events but a few sign up whenever they can. He'd like to get more of the better 70s active in THB. GM currently offline most of the time due to busy home life, so not a lot of help but few officers try to be enthusiastic about smaller raids and get people equipped for Karazhan. Basil asks if we can encourage that in any way. Moonsugar doesn't think so. Members are offered information but after that it's up to them. Cannonfodder asks if there was a CC-only Karazhan run. They tried but members often wouldn't show up so they merged with Team Tangerine. (edited) Numbers have been small, but everyone agrees THB people nice and raids go well, so mostly a matter of trying to recruit new members.
- Recap of last meeting's actions
- Guild use of THB
- Notice: Basil says to remind people that THB is not just for raids. Can be used to find members for heroics and for chatting too. Elsheindra adds that GEM can be used for 5-person planning as well and she recently posted instructions on adding events in GEM to the THB news feed.
- Cannonfodder says he went through a period of trying but take-up was very low. He tried 4-6 months ago, but had tried recently without much more success.
- Moonsugar would be interested in heroic runs if posted.
- Basil and Elsheindra comment that summers are often slow and raiding guilds often break for the summer.
- Cannonfodder speculates that with Gruul being downed, people will sit up and notice. Basil concurs but says they may find their gear lets them down if they haven't been taking part. Which, Cannonfodder replies, will hopefully give them impetus to get gear. Not an issue now, Basil says, but raid leaders can/will be choosy beyond basic "tank/healer/DPS" once numbers are up.
- Notice: Basil would like to remind people, so that reps can answer questions and reassure people if necessary, that when a boss is dropped, everyone in the encounter is entitled to roll if they need it. We've seen drops go to people who otherwise aren't highly geared. We've also seen drops go to people who probably already had better. So a reminder that people should think about whether something is an upgrade + if they get a drop, they should try to take part more.
- Basil says, there have been some complaints from regulars about loot distribution. No perfect answer. Only other option is something like DKP which becomes an administrative pain. DKP, Cannonfodder comments, leads to an elite class. Cannonfoddder disagrees with people turning up for 1 raid, getting loot, and then never been seen again.
- Moonsugar comments that Team Green uses master looting and the loot master may check the person's gear to see who needs it more.
- Heresy application
- We had problems with changing guild leaders/lack of communication. The guild exploded. Their application was tabled. If they come back to life, they can apply again.
- Spirits of the Wolf removed
- Completely dormant guild with only one or two members around and they were there to chat.
- Had confirmation that guild was merely guild of alts of people who wanted to stay in touch. Those people active socially in THB moved alts into THB guilds so they can still chat.
- Cannonfodder didn't realize they belonged.
- SotW was quite a large guild at one point. They joined prior to YoG. They had a split and a large chunk formed Primal, a raiding guild.
- THB Meeting
- Details, including venue, are now available in the rep forum finally. So far only names from The One and Roses of Dawn.
- Decision: Guild reps remember that you need to post it to your guild forums so that everybody gets the chance to check their calendars.
- Riders of the Storm application
- Application has been posted.
- They've come along on Gruul's Lair and Cannonfodder's nostalgia raids. So far things are going well, Basil thinks.
- Cannonfodder: Spending a lot of time with them, doing Zul'Aman and some non-THB Gruul runs. (edited) They have been 10 and 20 regular players who are also quite serious but in a good way. They're most interested in bettering their toons through larger content, which is why they applied. (edited)
- Basil concurs and mentions there was a single incident and that was handled very well and has, he thinks, had a positive effect on their application.
- Gimlinox wonders about a maximum number of guilds in THB. Basil responds that there is no maximum but we don't actively recruit and we try to keep numbers down to avoid friction and keep admin down so we can all still fit in here.
- Basil and Elsheindra suggest we give a few key members of Riders of the Storm access to THB channel, similar to what was done for CursedCrusaders.
- Decision: Cannonfodder to talk to Bluesky about two reps to join THB channel.
- Left out guilds
- Gimlinox comments about some guilds maybe being sidelined/ignored.
- Basil says that's not a worry but it might be a concern that members are left out because of class mix or equipment. In theory THB membership is by guild. Attendance at a raid is based on person strength/interest/merit – whatever applies most for the raid leader. Cannonfodder comments if gear is an issue then we want to endeavour to help those people gear up as the last thing we want is 25 people to be über geared and have no backup. Basil concurs and says that is probably primarily by encouraging heroics and dragging the odd person along to Karazhan. Teams who have Karazhan on farm can absorb one or two people per run who have basically decent gear (read Level 70 blues mostly).
- Moonsugar suggests organizing nights for people to get geared up from greens to blues so they can go to Karazhan. Basil says sounds good, but that is one of the two common problems: a) we lack people tio post signups/run groups and B) those that do get disheartened by the lack of signups.
- Decision: Moonsugar will look into it and see if there are people wanting to go from greens to blues.
- Basil says if there are people in guild who reps think would like to lead but are worried about what they know, get them to talk to one of the experienced people. Basil, for example, is happy to explain an instance or verbally walk them through it. Cannonfodder adds that the best way to learn an instance is to lead it.
- Current raiding/future plans
- Last week we downed Gruul.
- Tuesday remains good THB day for large raids. From sound of it, if RoS join then the weekend may see another viable day for 25-persons.
- Since we can down Gruul, we should be capable of Magtheridon, Serpentshrine Cavern, and Tempest Keep. SSC and TK each have an "easy" boss that is sitting on Basil's "to kill soon" list.
- Cannonfodder suggests we start running a 25-person on Saturday/Sunday evening to get people used to it being a 'big' raid day.
- Basil says Tuesdays may change where they go soon, so read up on resist requirements and start collecting gear. When disenchanting, please save resist stuff too, as it's too good to waste.
- Cannonfodder suggests that, as Tuesdays are Gruul, maybe Magtheridon on the weekend. Basil suggests starting next Sunday evening.
- Decision: Basil to post event for Magtheridon for next Sunday at 20:00 raid time.
- Decision: Basil to talk to Kari about conflicting with Team Tangerine

Gosh! Gruul Bites the Big One Again!
Last changed: Jun 25, 2008 05:09 by Elsheindra Labels: thbnews, gruulsbande
In what was probably our most efficient run ever, the Honourbound Alliance downed Gruul, taking only 2 hours and 15 minutes from start to finish. We only needed one attempt on the High Council and on Gruul too. It was some very nice work, indeed, making it a dark and stormy night for Gruul!
That makes twice we've taken down Gruul now, so things are going well.
If you're a raid stats junky, the raid stats are posted at http://wowwebstats.com/pyxdcttw1xx4s. You can get a complete list of THB raid stats (such as have been collected) from http://www.honourbound.org/stats/
We Be Messing with Magtheridon!
Last changed: Jun 25, 2008 05:36 by Elsheindra Labels: thbnews, maggiethb
This week has already seen two visits to Magtheridon by the Honourbound Alliance. Our first ever visit was on Sunday, June 22nd. We didn't manage to down Magtheridon then, so after last night's very successful (and quick) Gruul run, we decided to pay Magtheridon another visit. The trash isn't posing us any trouble at all. The big trick seems to be synchronized clicking and infernal control to keep them off the healers during the encounter. I'm sure with a bit of practice we'll get it yet! We're only just starting after all.
For information on Magtheridon, see our Messing with Magtheridon raid info page. You can also get to that page quickly by using the shortcut of http://www.honourbound.org/magtheridon See also our Magtheridon raid progress page.

Shankly's Charity Run!
