There's been a GEM event up for a bit but no explanation yet! Time details still to be confirmed but first estimate is below.

Current plan is to go to Bletchley Park first and then head to London afterwards for a BBQ at Basil & Elsheindra's (numbers permitting)

Bletchley Park is the home of the programmable digital electronic computer Colossus.

We are aiming to meet at London Euston at 11:30 to get a train to Bletchley Park (depart 11:54, arrival 12:42). Arrival at the park is due by 13:00 when we will hopefully meet up with anybody who travelled directly. We will co-ordinate via mobile phone on the day and will give out Basil's number out to people we know are coming.

Dinner will be back at Basil & Elsheindra's place where we'll be firing up the BBQ.

Costs

Bletchley Park visit - £14.50 for the train (off-peak from London Euston), £8.00 for the park. £3.00 for car parking if people want to drive. If you went with us last year, you were given a one-year pass that should still be good for Bletchey Park admission.

If you have a Network Rail Pass (like Elsheindra does), we can lower the rail cost because it can be used for 4 people to travel for the price of 2! However, we'll need some more people with railcards to do that across the entire group.

Bletchley Part

This is open from 10:30 -> 17:00. We should be there from 13:00 -> 17:00.

Bletchley Park was used during the World War II for Britain's code breaking efforts (including breaking Enigma) and much has been restored. There are tours available which show all of the equipment used including the recently rebuilt Colossus (though this is only visible through a glass window).

It has grounds to walk through for those not interested in its history, although last year's tour was extremely fascinating. There's also a general museum that you can walk through on your own.

Travelling from Afar?

If anybody is travelling long distance please let us know. We have very limited accomodation space in the house if people don't mind sleeping on a couch, otherwise we'll see what we can find for you locally (or vaguely locally) once we know numbers!
