General

If we don't recruit new members, we won't be able to spread the Pay It Forward meme. At the same time, we cannot grow too fast or invite too many people who don't fit. As such, we've constructed some notes on the recruiting process.

Recruiting Process

Applying to join the guild is straightforward: the applicant fills out an application form. Each week we accept a certain number of applicants as initiates to the guild and invite them to our weekly Friday guild meeting to be initiated. If they are rejected, they will receive a notice, before the following Friday, indicating if their application has been rejected. If an applicant is accepted, they'll undergo a trial period of a month with the guild. At the end of the trial period a decision will be made to accept them as a full member or not.

Initiates are generally brought into the guild on the recommendation of an existing member, although people may apply on their own. Any current full member in good standing can sponsor an applicant and send the applicant off to fill out the application form. There's a space on the form a sponsor name.

If the applicant is accepted, they will be assigned a mentor, a full guild member to supervise them during their initiate period. The mentor's responsibilities include:

  • Ensuring the initiate reads the rules here or on WoWKindness.com.
  • Warning and disciplining bad behaviour.
  • Helping him or her with questions about the guild.
  • Helping him or her update their profile and learn to use the guild web site.
  • Helping him or her install/configure the guild's add-ons.</li>
  • Introducing him or her to guild members.
  • You should try to adventure together at least a few times with the initiate to ensure he or she understand how to work with a group and the group leader and plays in a team spirit.
  • Ask the initiate to report acts of kindness to you and ensure the initiate understands this is a part of the guild.
  • Generally help him or her fit in.

Initiates also have some responsibilities:

  • Knowing and following the rules here or on WoWKindness.com.
  • Keeping their guild profile page updated.
  • Installing the guild's add-ons.
  • Making an effort to meet and interact with other guild members.
  • Engaging in random acts of kindness.
  • Spending time playing their character during their initiate period.
  • Representing the guild on the server and in our allied events in a favourable and appropriate way.

Evaluation

At the end of four weeks, the initiate will be evaluated. All full guild members can [anonymously comment] during the period on whether the initiate should become a member, leave the guild or be evaluated further.

The Guild Officers make the final decision, guided by comments posted by other members, their own experiences with the initiate, and a report from the initiate's mentor. The officers may decide to accept the initiate for full membership, extend the initiate period by another two weeks, or bid the initiate farewell. In general, there won't be any additional extensions beyond the first two weeks.

Evaluation is not a question of simply whether the initiate follows the rules. It can be completely subjective. It is an evaluation on how well we feel the initiate fits in. This is our spare time. We are evaluating whether the initiate make our spare time more or less enjoyable. If the initiate is immature, whiny, greedy, too young, or generally bad-tempered, he or she is not going to fit in with our mostly mature but laid-back members.

The spirit a person shows is more important than experience. Inexperienced players with a good attitude are welcome. Social, helpful, mature, and giving players will find the best home here.

While a player's attitude is the chief concern, following is a secondary list of preferred classes based on broadening the current makeup of the guild.

Desired Classes

Classes wanted in order of priority:

  • Priest
  • Warlock
  • Hunter
  • Rogue
  • Druid
  • Mage
  • Warrior
  • Paladin
